Birds can
Reduce the Value of
Your Crop by Half

Bird protection
Bird damage can be a
problem in horticultural crops. Bird netting is becoming more widely used in improving control of
bird strikes over many crops. For example nashi pears, berry fruit, wine
grapes, table grapes and many more.
The structure is a flat
net structure supported by cables and poles. The sides are either bird net
or wind break cloth that go to the ground to stop ground hopping birds.
Benefits include the
creation of a microclimate with reduced evaporation, reduced wind rub and
reduced damage to new growth. This will result in reduced stress for the
tree or crop, a more controlled spray environment and reduction of sunburn.
Further benefits of bird
netting are it works against large and small birds, and acts as a wind break so
giving added benefits. Bee movement is not restricted so pollination is
not impacted.
The cloth used is chemical resistant and UV stabilised for
long life.
