What type of crop do you wish to protect?

What is the site like?

Is it steep, rocky, etc.

Will it be economic to protect this site?

You need to consider the site situation and the current productivity on that site

What type of protection is best for your site and crop?

Pitched, flat, shade, hail, wind, rain, bird, bats

What type of structure is best for site, crop and proposed type of protection?

What is the speed and dominant direction of the wind in your area?

The local Bureau of Meteorology can supply this information.

All this information is vital raw material to ensure that the protection is designed specifically to suit your actual conditions.

The selection of materials is very important and must take into account all of the above factors. They also must be selected to give the optimum life. We select only the appropriate materials for the structure. We select grades of wire, cables, poles, etc that will give the structure an average life span of 40 years. Correctly designed artificial shelters will give you many types of crop protection.

The benefits include:

  • significant wind protection
  • bird and bat protection (important for stone fruit)
  • improved fruit and crop quality
  • reduced sun and wind burn
  • less wind rub
  • potential for yield increase due to reduction of many limiting factors
  • reduced evaporation and less need for irrigation
  • increased spraying time available to wind reduction
